Preamble:
Nobody wants to see a lot of terms and conditions and so we apologise for the contents of this and related pages. However, in an increasingly litigious world, we must protect ourselves and inform you of our obligations and limitations etc.
Thus, in this one paragraph here, we want to say without prejudice (without this paragraph detracting from the meaning of the following terms) that we hope you will find that the terms and conditions below and throughout our website simply amount to this: Whilst trying to make a living like everyone else, we won't do anything nasty, silly, illegal or unreasonable with your data nor abuse the privilege of your very gratefully anticipated visit. We are genuinely trying to provide a reasonable, useful, consistent and inoffensive service but we don't want to be unreasonably penalised or have to throw ourselves off bridges for oversights, errors and omissions. Primary Definition:
For the purpose of this website, QSL (as defined below) is the custodian of this site and all rights protected herein, and is the company responsible for maintaining this site and its content.
1 Security:
QSL makes reasonable effort to protect your data to a level in keeping with the security level indicated by your browser. Please note that if your browser does not indicate you are on an encrypted secure server, then your communications may be visible by others where they have access to your computer or to our computer or to any communication device or medium in between. Where your browser does indicate you are on an encrypted secure server, you are protected by the supplier of the encryption services, and that in addition QSL will use due diligence to ensure QSL's servers are in a reasonably secure environment.
QSL is not responsible in any way whatsoever for data loss or confidentiality of your data passing through our or anyone else's systems. If necessary, you may procure warranties to this effect at additional cost -- please contact the site curator.
Please note that once you decide to make payment, you will be passed over to an external reputable website such as PayPal and that all responsibilities for any claim you make must then be made with that website.
Please note that if you have signified your wish to remain logged in permanently, or if your computer is not protected from external access by others, you are responsible for the legality, safety, actions, comfort and appropriateness of others who may access your computer.
2 Cookies:
QSL uses cookies for your convenience -- for example, it allows you to browse and add items to your basket without being logged in.
QSL does not use cookies to track your movements outside of QSL's sites and we do not share information with other companies. QSL does not use or approve of the use of aggressive tracking scripts and cookies for sharing of "web travel" statistics with other companies.
For those concerned about the use of cookies to track your travels around different websites, this is only possible if those different websites all contain advertisements from a company or group that shares information, or have some other way of connecting one visit to another. Where QSL does display such advertisements, please note we do not control the content displayed by those advertisers. We do not encourage or collude with advertisers to follow your movements but we are unable to prevent them sharing information.
3 QSL UK, Privacy Policy, 1-Feb-06:
Please note that we may use a Secure Connection to protect the transmission of all personal information using a Secure Server. Where this is so, our policy is as follows...
We do not protect general information, listings or your basket with a secure page as they are not considerred personal(and to keep down the volume of information passing through our secure server). We only secure personal information such as your name, address, history and financial details.
A secure server is granted by certificate which prevents visibility to anyone on your intranet, over WiFi, or anyone with access to internet transmission and exchange locations. It also assures you of the validity of the web site. Check your Internet Explorer Secure Report Icon (orange padlock in your address bar) for details.
Your basket and public area information (such as options and notes) are still acessible when you are logged out because we use cookies for your convenience as is common practice. If you are on a public computer and the information in your basket and public areas is confidential to you, please erase this information (clear your basket, remove your choices and notes) before leaving the applicable computer.
Where we do not protect your personal data with a secure connection, with the exception of your e-mail address which is generally required as a point of contact, we do not encourage you to enter personal details (these are optional), and we do not ask you to enter any financial details.
We only garner and retain information about you that is required to be held by law and as is helpful for us to refine our website.
Except where verifiably instructed to do so by law:
We never sell or release e-mail addresses or other information about you for use by other companies;
Apart from the information you are invited to provide, we can not and do not garner or store any personal information about you without your knowledge;
We keep messages (as required by law). These will never be sold or disclosed except as and when required to do so by law.
We keep your temporary IP and Timezone. This helps us to refine our website. We cannot locate you with this information to any more detail than your country (Update: recent advances in technology means that there are databases that allow more accurate location to be established, but we do not use these services). It should be noted that various government agencies and others with specialist software can locate you with an IP address if they have access to your Internet service provider records.
We generally do not reply to comments but you can include your email address if you wish. This will never be sold.

6 COMMENTS, IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS, PROPOSALS:
Please do not send us your ideas. You may not lay claim to an idea that you freely gave or make known to us without warning.
This paragraph is a simple explanation and does not form part of the following legal statements and requirements. This request is to protect us from laws that might allow individuals to alledge they gave us an idea and then seek compensation for the use of that idea. We don't understand how laws can allow that to happen when something is just given to us without clearly qualifying ownership, but apparently it does, so we have to write some stuff to protect ourselves from it. Verifiable = a right, action, notification, event or other that is verified true by provably transmitted and received communication, from and to individuals that have provably demonstrated the appropriate authority to make and receive said communications, in a confirmed manner that can be exposed to audit trail for a minimum of seven years (by being in writing and receipted for example).
